Early Life and Education

Ali was born in Nairobi, Kenya on October 29, 1969, which makes his age be 48 years old as of now. He was born to the parents named Mila (mother) and Murad Velshi (father). His father is the first politician from the Indian origin who was elected at the Legislative Assembly of Ontario. Similarly, his mother grew up in South Africa. Talking about his education, Ali attended Toronto’s Northern Secondary School. He was a brilliant and active child for which he was elected as school president. Career and Professional Life

After two years of earning a degree from the Queen’s University, Ali received a fellowship from the American Political Science Association. He worked with Lee H. Hamilton who is a former member of the United States House of Representatives. He started his journalism career as a reporter working for CFTO. Earlier he was recruited as a General Assignment reporter but later he was made a business reporter. His personality and professionalism influenced his superiors to make him anchor for CablePulse 24. He also started serving at the CityTV. He joined BNN – Business News Network which was named Business Television those days in 1996. As a host, Ali used to appear in Canada’s first prime-time business news hour entitled The Business News.

 

In September 2001, Ali joined CNNfn in New York City for which he had to move to the United States. Being with the business news channel, he served as an anchor for the programs like Business Unusual, Street Sweep, Insights and Your Money. He and Pat Kiernan were the co-hosts for The Money Gang. Ali was reassigned to main CNN network as a business anchor. He also hosted The Turnaround which was a reality television show for which Ali traveled to several corners of America. Ali was later assigned to The Situation Room in 2005 which was newly launched program. He became the business correspondent for the American Morning as well.

 

Ali Velshi used to appear frequently on shows like American Morning and Anderson Cooper’s Anderson Cooper 360° during the financial crisis in 2008. Velshi has always supported and defended the Muslim community’s right and regularly acknowledges when the discussion comes about the Islam. It was officially announced that Ali was about to leave CNN and would be joining Al Jazeera America on April 4, 2013. He hosted a 30-minute prime time program named Real Money with Ali Velshi. Al Jazeera was a new channel at that time for which Ali became the first on-air personality employed by the network. His show was launched on August 20, 2013, and was re-launched as Ali Velshi on Target on May 12, 2015. As Al Jazeera America shut down, it was the end of Ali Velshi’s show. Velshi joined MSNBC in 2016 and was assigned additional duties for NBC News as Chief Business Correspondent.

 

Television journalist Velshi is also an author where his book entitled “Gimme My Money Back: Your Guide to Beating the Financial Crisis” was appreciated by the viewers.
