Benedict James Kay was born in 1975 and his place of birth is in Liverpool, England. Along with Jason Robinson, Phil Vickery and Jonny Wilkinson, he is one of four players to start the 2003 and 2007 RWC Finals.

At the end of the 2009–10 season, he decided to get retirement ending his 11 years of playing career with Leicester Tigers. After retirement, he has been serving ESPN and BT Sport as a commentator.
