Eich was born in 1961 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, the United States. He was born into the white family background and grew up in Palo Alto. Regarding his education, he went to the Ellwood P. Cubberley High School from where he graduated in 1979. Later, he joined the Santa Clara University to complete his Bachelor’s degree majoring in Mathematics and Computer Science.
