In 2017, August a cancer tumor was removed from his abdomen. Though the surgery was expected to be a successful one Krauthammer confessed about his cancer revival. In a heartfelt letter written to his colleagues and friends, he disclosed that he had a week to live from 2018, June 8.

On the letter he said, he had lived his life without any kind of regret and he had enjoyed every minute of his survival. He mentioned;

“My doctors tell me their best estimate is that I have only a few weeks left to live. I have been uncharacteristically silent these past ten months.”

 

He added,

I had thought that silence would soon be coming to an end, but I’m afraid I must tell you that fate has decided on a different course for me. This is the final verdict. My fight is over.”

He took his final breath on 2018, at Atlanta, Georgia.
