Barry was born in 1969 in New Zealand. She attended Queen Margaret College where she became the head girl during her final years. Later she went to Victoria University of Wellington in Linguistics to complete her Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree earning a Certificate in journalism.

Barry initiated her journalism career by working for radio 89.3 TODAY FM as a reporter. The radio station is now named as More FM Wairarapa. While being there, she used to present morning news. After years of experience and hard work, she turned out as a news anchor on the RadioLIVE breakfast show on 9 February 2009. Talking about her television roles, she became the news reporter for TV3 in Christchurch in 1993. Later she moved to 3 News in Auckland as a reporter.
Unexpectedly on 26 April 2016, Barry resigned from MediaWorks. She has contributed for more than two decades in the industry.
