Although he was never the part of an art specialized school, he was able to secure scholarships to Northern Kentucky University based on his high school portfolio. He completed his BFA degree majoring in graphic design in 1995. He returned back to Ludlow High School in 2003 to give the commencement address there.

In association with Caliber Press, Mack started publishing Kabuki in 1994. Later, the series was moved to Image Comics. While he was in his college, he completed his first book titled Kabuki: Circle of Blood. In 2007, he released a children’s book titled The Shy Creatures Feiwel & Friends. His interior works include Daredevil: End of Days, Kabuki: Circle of Blood, New Avengers, Grendel: Black, White & Red, Dream Logic and much more.
