Born as Hilary Ann Pankhurst, she landed the planet on 4 December 1969, which makes her age be 51 years old as of 2020. By profession, she is a well-recognized New Zealand journalist and is also noted for being an established television personality. She is also famous for appearing in Seven Sharp as a co-host with Jeremy Wells.

Hilary has also gained huge popularity by working on TV3 for many years as a newsreader. She worked there until April 2016 where she contributed to the Paul Henry morning TV show as the newsreader since its launch.

Hilary started her career by working in radio 89.3 TODAY FM which is now named as More FM Wairarapa. There, she worked as a reporter initially and later became the morning newsreader. She also went to participate in the morning shows for a decade. She turned as the news anchor on the RadioLIVE breakfast show on 9 February 2009. Marcus Lush was the host of the breakfast show.

Regarding her television career, she served as a TV3 news reporter in 1993 in Christchurch. Later, she moved to Auckland where she worked for 3 News as a reporter. For about six years, she served as a presenter on 3 News on weekends and later presented the weeknight 3 News.

On 26 April 2016, she unexpectedly resigned from MediaWorks on which she has worked for 23 years. The reason behind her resignation is her desire to spent more time with her beloved family members. She received a tribute video on Friday, 27 May 2016 from her colleague Mike McRoberts in her final day.

The position of Hilary was replaced by Sam Hayes which was revealed on 29 May on Newshub at 6. The following day, it was announced that she would be replaced by Paul Henry on Ingrid Hipkiss. From 19 September 2016, she took the position of the new co-host of Breakfast with Jack Tame which she left in 2018.
