He is best noted for appearing in the fantasy-adventure Percy Jackson films portraying the title role. Before starring in the series Jack & Bobby (2004–2005), he often used to appear in commercials during the mid-1990s. He also appeared in movies like The Butterfly Effect and Hoot in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

He received huge appreciation from the western 3:10 to Yuma, The Number 23, Meet Bill, Gamer and My One and Only. He is also recognized for his incredible role in 2011’s The Three Musketeers as d’Artagnan, 2012’s The Perks of Being a Wallflower and 2016’s Indignation and 2017’s The Vanishing of Sidney Hall.
