In 1984, he completed his high school from Robert Service High School. He received scholarship offers from Hawaii and Idaho (I-AA at the time). During the 1989 NFL Draft, Schlereth was selected by the Washington Redskins in the tenth round (#263 overall). He played six out of twelve seasons with the Denver Broncos from 1995 to 2000. He became a member of three Super Bowl championship teams during his football career. In the 1991 and 1998 seasons, he was selected to the Pro Bowl for his performances.
