Early Life and Education
The African footballer was born in 1983 and her place of birth is in Soweto, South Africa. Born to the South African parents, she has spent wonderful childhood memories with her two brothers. She was interested in sports from an early age where she used to play football with her neighborhood boys. She played for her school and later started playing under the 10-level platform for Soweto Rangers. Later, she played for Jomo Cosmos’s women section and finally moved to Soweto Ladies in 1996.
Career and Professional Life
Modise normally plays in mid-field of the forward role and is nicknamed after the name of male athlete Albert “Bashin” Mahlangu. She scored a total of 51 goals for Soweto Ladies during the 2001–02 regular season. She was invited to trials with Arsenal Ladies in the year 2003 during which she was able to impress Vic Akers. She was unable to sign for the English club because of the disputes over sponsorship and funding.

She and Nigerian footballer Perpetua Nkwocha became the two African players to receive the nominations for the Women’s FIFA World Player of the Year in 2009. However, their victory was limited to nominations as the award was received by German footballer Birgit Prinz who is already retired now.
Modise was named Player of the Championship at the 2006 Women’s African Football Championship. Further, she successfully became elected for being part of the 2006 CAF Women’s Footballer of the Year award. Having some working issues with coach August Makalakalane, she announced that she would not be playing for the national team in November 2008. The new coach of the national team named Joseph Mkhonza called her in 2012 and was back to the national team.
She went to the 2012 Olympic football tournament where the South African team started their victory against Sweden in Coventry with a win of 4–1. She scored her 100th goal against Algeria at the CAF African Women’s Championship where the South African won the match with a win of 5–1. The 100th goal made her became the first African player to reach the 100-goal barrier in the international format. Modise retired from international football which was announced on 19 May 2015.
