The following year, she moved to Biloxi, Mississippi to join WLOX-TV. Later, she was employed by SMV-TV in Nashville, Tennessee as a sports anchor and reporter in 1986. From 1988 to 1990, she was hired by WAGA-TV in Atlanta, Georgia as a reporter and sports anchor. She also contributed to radio station V-103 as a radio host.

Roberts made a big breakthrough in her professional television career by joining ESPN in February 1990 as a sportscaster. She remained in the ESPN network for about 15 years.
