He was born in 1956 in Beirut, Lebanon. Talking about his parents, he is the son of father Malcolm H. Kerr and mother Ann Zwicker. His father was an American academic at the time of Steve’s birth who was specialized in the Middle East. Steve grew up with his three siblings with whom he has spent some memorable childhood days. On July 24, 2001, Steve alongside Derek Anderson was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers. He played 65 games for the 2001–02 season with Portland Trail Blazers. On August 2, 2002, Steve alongside Erick Barkley was traded back to San Antonio.
