30 years plus of service as a reporter, Karen Minton, what encouraged her?
In 2016, September, Channel 2 Action News celebrated and gave tribute to Karen Minton for her 30 years of unbreakable service to the station. Minton had joined the news station in 1986, September 30, after working two years at The Weather Channel. The channel gave her a tribute by showcasing a video in the early morning show which gave a fuller picture of Karen during her modeling days followed by the highlights of her career covering the disastrous situation in Atlanta.
Chief Glenn Burns who joined the channel in 1981 just a few years before Karen remarked her to be dedicated and eager to learn the person who took every assigned job seriously and who made the weather forecast easily understandable for every listener followed by her humble attitude.
While for being loyal to WSB-TV, Karen expressed her difficulties during her early career stage and how Channel made her comfortable despite having all sort of family trouble in her life. On a statement, she said, “It was a family, not just a workplace. We are there for each other,” she said. “I can’t imagine going anywhere else.”
After the entire show, Channel took her for a luncheon at her famous retro, Chops lobster bar, where Karen, again spilled her emotions for the channel and their effort for making her day special. She said, “I got a bit emotional, my throat caught. It’s such a special place. I love it so much and it just touched my heart they would do that.”
With her story, we can surely say that loyalty does exist. WSB-TV stood and helped her firmly when she was going under an unstable path and here, Karen for their love and support is giving her entire life and opportunity.

In 1992, Karen Minton went through a bumpy married life. She divorced her husband, whose name is still wrapped under mystery. On the occasion of 30 years of service to the channel, Karen had spoken about her miserable married life and her experience on being a single mom. She stated how unreasonable it would have been for her if she had left Atlanta with her children to an unknown strange place. And how she decided to stick to the place even after her divorce with her husband, as she had family and friends who supported her through the situation and how her parents had moved out to help her with her kids. She said,” I could never imagine packing up my two children and going to a strange city. At this point, I had friends and relationships. WSB was absolutely good for me. I chose to stay. My parents ended up moving out here to help out with the kids until they were old enough and I got to do so many things with WSB.”
Karen after her divorced got busy with her career instead of getting married she chose to stick with her two children Kimberly and Leigh. On an event of Mother’s day, to tribute her mother Karen posted a family photo where she is with her mother, father and two children.

Karen though had a bad married life, she seems to have an outgoing family life. She is residing with her parents, two dogs, and a younger daughter. She is surely having a gala time, with her daughters and parents which must have refrained her from getting married for the second time.

Born in 1956, San Pedro, California state, Karen Minton studied in the University of Pacific where she graduated with a degree in biological science. She later joined the University of Mississippi State and excelled in her study in broadcast meteorology program. After her study completion, in 1981 she joined KOVR as a host and anchor and after three years joined WSB-TV in 1986. She rose to shine after joining the channel and is currently known as “First Lady of Atlanta Weather”. With all her effort for her channel, Karen has managed to sum up a net worth of $4- 5 million, which we are sure to rise up as she is still working for the channel and successfully hosting shows with her colleagues.
