Before initiating his career in the WWE world, Braun thought of pursuing his Strongman career. On November 5, 2011, he won the NAS US Amateur National Championships from which he gained Strongman Corporation Professional Card. On March 4, 2012, he became the winner of Arnold Amateur Strongman Championships and 2012 Arnold Strongman Classic. These successive wins made Scherr receive an invitation to the 2013 Arnold Strongman Classic. He was placed fifth during the SCL North American Championships in mid-2012.
Braun came into the attention of WWE management from which he gained a contract in early 2013. He was trained at the WWE Performance Center in Orlando, Florida where he gained the ring name Braun Stowman. On December 19, 2014, he made his wrestling debut in Jacksonville, Florida during an NXT live event. He defeated Chad Gable on his debut match.
On August 24, 2015, Scherr made his grand debut on the WWE ring by attacking Dean Ambrose and Roman Reigns where he identifies himself as one of the new members of The Wyatt Family. Braun was separated from The Wyatt Family as part of the 2016 WWE draft where he was drafted to RAW brand whereas his partners were drafted to SmackDown. In November 2018, Strowman started a feud with Baron Corbin who was serving as the acting Raw General Manager. Because of a pre-match knockout by Corbin, Stroman lost the match to Lesnar at WWE Crown Jewel.
