#Repost @brownu with @get_repost. Thanks for the shout out @brownu! So excited to share this adventure with all of you. You can watch my launch on Sept 25 and follow the journey on @nasa TV. https://www.nasa.gov/multimedia/nasatv/#public ・・・ On #NationalAstronautDay, we celebrate Jessica Meir '99. At Brown, @astro_jessica concentrated in biology before going on to earn a master's degree from the International Space University and her Ph.D. in marine biology from @scripps_ocean. In 2013, Meir was selected by @nasa as one of eight members of the 21st NASA astronaut class. She is currently training for her upcoming space mission to the International Space Station, where she will spend the following six months. ⠀ ⠀ When asked what her favorite part of the job is, Meir said: “Every day is different, and most of it is very active. One day I might be training in the spacesuit underwater, and the next I’ll be learning the methods to conduct an on-orbit experiment, practicing operating the space station’s robotic arm to capture a cargo vehicle, flying in the T-38 jet, taking a Russian class, putting out fires for emergency training in our mock-up facility, or learning to co-pilot the Soyuz spacecraft. Our training on the ground is not only varied in content, but is also highly collaborative across fields and with all of our international partners.” Meir also notes that her time at Brown was instrumental in her career path. She said her undergraduate education “provided me with a solid foundation for my STEM career, but perhaps more importantly, taught me how to learn. It also instilled the importance of a diverse and well rounded education. In a job like this one, learning new things across a wide array of disciplines every day even 20 years after graduating from college is still part of the game!”⠀ ⠀ ?: NASA

Always an exciting day when we get to test Class I flight hardware, the hardware that is rated for #spaceflight. These Class I #spacesuit gloves (yep, the very same #ilcdover custom gloves I posted awhile back) are rated for me to wear on an @iss #spacewalk in the future. This small chamber allows them to be pressurized, as the whole suit will be to protect from the vacuum of space.
