Early career

Wrestling career
On May 15, 1998, he made his wrestling debut in the WWA (World Wrestling All-Stars) by facing Tiger Ali Singh. He appeared in NWA (National Wrestling Alliance) losing to Shawn Stasiak in his debut match. He teamed with Bull Pain for the NWA OVW Southern tag team titles against Nick Dinsmore and Rob Conway. Later, he started using a gimmick where he wore a fur rug to the ring with ring name Baldo.
He was later hired by World Wrestling Federation after being introduced to talent scout Tom Prichard. He was assigned to the Power Pro Wrestling (PPW) developmental territory after receiving additional training from Dory Funk, Jr. He earned the Heavyweight Championship and the Young Guns Championship during his time in Power Pro Wrestling.
