Early Life and Education

Velasquez was born in 1982 and his place of birth is in Salinas, California, the United States of America. Talking about his family background, he was born to the parents named Isabel Velasquez (mother) and Efrain Velasquez (father). His father Efrain is from Mexico who entered the United States as an undocumented immigrant. However, his mother is an American born citizen.

Velasquez’s parents met in America which made Efrain hold American citizenship. Cain spent his childhood days in Yuma, Arizona with other two siblings named Efrain Jr. and Adela Velasquez.

Talking about hid education and academic achievements, he went to Kofa High School from where he started his wrestling journey by compiling a record of 110–10 in four years of wrestling. He was also interested in football which he played for about three years. During his senior days, he played both wrestling and football and was captain on both the teams. He used to play as a linebacker for his football team.

After completion of his high school graduation, he went to Iowa Central Community College where he goes victory in the NJCAA National Championship in the heavyweight (285 lb limit) division during his one season wrestling career in 2001-02. Later, he was transferred to Arizona State University and then went to wrestle for three seasons for the Sun Devils. He also fights against future UFC fighters like C.B. Dollaway and Ryan Bader during his time at Arizona State University.

 

Career and Professional Life

After completing his college education, Cain started his mixed martial arts career for which he joined American Kickboxing Academy. Under Dave Camarillo, he received a brown belt in Guerrilla Jiu-Jitsu as well as a black belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu under Leandro Viera.

On October 7, 2006, he made his debut on MMA by fighting against Jesse Fujarczyk where he got victory in the first round by TKO. He also got victory over undefeated Jeremiah Constant at BodogFight by TKO at the 4-minute mark.

He gained wide popularity after debuting in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) on October 7, 2006, in a match against Brad Morris at UFC 83. He also won in the fight against Jake O’Brien at UFC Fight Night 14 in the first round by TKO. He continued his successful journey by also winning Denis Stojnić at UFC Fight Night 17.

 

 

At UFC 99, he competed against former kickboxer and heavyweight contender Cheick Kongo. He also fights against UFC newcomer Ben Rothwell whom he defeated by second-round TKO. On February 20, 2010, he faced former Interim UFC Heavyweight Champion Antônio Rodrigo Nogueira at UFC 110 and the victory made Cain earn the Knockout of the Night honors. He also received a fight with then-champ Brock Lesnar at UFC 121 for a UFC Heavyweight Championship.

In the fight between Velasquez and Lesnar, Velasquez got victory securing Knockout of the Night honors. By beating him via TKO in the first round. After losing the championship with UFC Interim Heavyweight Champion Fabrício Werdum on June 13, 2015, he faced Travis Browne on July 9, 2016.

It was reported that Cain trained in the WWE Performance Center on July 19, 2018. There, his head coach was Norman Smiley and then went to appear in an NXT televised event.

An announcement made on March 2019 revealed that Cain signed a multi-match agreement with top Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide. He made his debut as a heavyweight competitor in 6 man trios action at Triplemanía XXVII.
